(Since putting up content & photo heavy posts requires thought less procrastination, I'll post these  random tidbits in between, to prove I'm still alive)

Random Post #4:

When the temperature in Brazil hits 10 degrees (or a little less), my entire Facebook newsfeed fills up with Instagram photos of people in hats/ gloves/ scarves/ heaters strapped to their backs/ puffercoats etc

It's cold, but not that cold guys...

Guaruja has better beaches than Santos

(Santos is still ok, but the ferry ride across to Guaruja is definitely worth it)

The round circles (on the fence below) are a trademark of the port city of Santos

(Long overdue) Weekends Update

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while! The crippling need for perfection is stopping me from creating any new content (I'm waiting until I have appropriate photos etc before I post anything, but then that just means I never post anything!)

I'll give a brief summary of what I've been up to for the past few weekends:

  • 14th & 15th June: Santos
  • 21st & 22nd June: Sao Paulo
  • 28th & 29th June: (Just shopping for essentials in Walmart & Esplanada haha)
And for this coming weekend...
  • 6th & 7th July: (Going to a chacra (small farmhouse) to meet all the other new trainees!)
During the week I've just been working (which hasn't been too taxing, to be honest). Some days I teach (my boss picks me up for that), and other days I just have to go into the office for research (lesson planning, printing etc).

The hours are all over the place though! Since we teach companies, we can only have lessons when they are free: this is usually either...
  • early morning (by this I mean getting up before 6am),
  • lunchtime (anywhere from 12pm- my boss doesn't usually have lunch till 3pm!)
  • evening (after 5pm- sometimes we'll have to stay until 8 or 9pm)
Speaking of evening timings, we've been trying to get Skype lessons up and running (online/ virtual teaching). Whenever we ran tests, everything would be fine (even between 3 people or so), but as soon as we tried a real lesson, everything fell apart (connection issues etc) =/

So we still haven't managed to start it up yet! One of the students suggested we used a software called 'GoToMeeting', & another friend of mine suggested 'Google+ Hangouts'. Think we might try the latter (since it's free to try out!) We just need a place where we can host group calls with microphones (& webcams), & without the call dropping every 2 seconds!

If anyone has any other suggestions on software or platforms we could use for the online classes, I'd be grateful! (Preferably something free/ easy to use/ not-bandwidth-heavy/ that doesn't require a lot of downloading etc)

Sorry about the rant, but that's all for now. Will try & update you all when I get back from the weekend (there's no internet/ phone signal out in the countryside!)

(PS- Hopefully the update will actually happen this time, since I have photos at the ready & 9th July is a state holiday here ('Novo de Julho' of 1932 is when the state of Sao Paulo tried to separate from the rest of Brazil, but failed kinda like Scotland) Since the 9th is a Tuesday, fingers and toes crossed that I get Monday off too!)

Take care,
-CELTAfied
